life ahead. What our ancestors have taught is not passing from one generation to the next generation. If the situation goes like this, then our children may lose their values, which will affect the functioning of our society drastically.
For instance, the students are now hesitating to respect their study material which they use in their daily school life. I can hear the loud sound of books falling (thrown by the students) on the table once they arrive to the class. They think that once they give the price for materials, they have all the right to mistreat it. This doesn't seem like a fair reason to do it. We have to admit that, we forgot to pass on the values to our younger generations. I should say that, I always notice students mistreating their books, pens and other materials which makes me feel very bad and wonder what all values will be lost in the days that are going to come.
The beginning of the Quran was with the word “Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists)”. That points towards gaining knowledge through reading. Then in the following verses, Allah says “Who has taught by the pen” and it continues “has taught man that which he knew not”. All the above verses are teaching us about reading, importance of pen and knowledge which we need to gain. So, it is our duty and responsibility to respects books, pen and all the study materials which we use for seeking knowledge. Indeed it is a blessing from the almighty. I believe that if we are disrespecting these things, we don’t have to search for the reasons why we are failing to get the knowledge from school.

The next thing students are deliberately forgetting is the hard work do to impart knowledge. I would like to describe a small incident that has been reported in some social media platforms and local news. It was about the former king of Oman, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and the former Indian president Shankar Dayal Sharma. Once Mr. Sharma visited Oman for an official visit. When he landed at the Muscat Airport the Sultan himself had reached the airport to receive Mr. Sharma. The Sultan took Mr. Sharma from the airport in a car driven by himself by breaking all protocols. When the Sultan was asked about this incident, he replied politely that the reason behind his approach was not because Mr. Sharma was the head of a nation, but a professor who taught him in India. We must learn a few lessons from this incident. How the sultan respected his teacher without minding his status or rank. A teacher is always a teacher and we are obliged to treat and respect them well.

When we look at this matter, the students don’t even show the manners to stand up when a teacher comes to the class. This also shows the drain of values from our students. We should give much attention to tackle this issue through continuous motivation, improvement and encouragement. We should give respect to take knowledge back. I am wishing my students all the best to live a peaceful life ahead.
