Muslims all over the world are blessed with two festivals of which Eid Al- Fitr has the most significance. This festival is bestowed upon us for fasting through the entire lunar Islamic month of Ramadan before dawn till sunset.
The nights are marked with significant prayers that are very special and in a way the true spirit of this holy month. They are called the Taraweeh prayers. They are prayed at the end of each day. The last ten days of Ramadan are of the most prominence as they are spent in the search of a special night, Laylatul Qadr.
Another key feature of the month of Ramadan is giving charity. It is this month where people give alms and charity in the name of Allah which helps the livelihood of many. A lot of organisations get funded during this month, through the money from charity and Zakah.
The Eid Day
The end of the month of Ramadan leads to the beginning of the next month in the Islamic lunar calendar called Shawwal. The first day of this month is celebrated as the Eid day. It is a time to rejoice and it is a big extravaganza amongst the Muslim communities. Families get together and celebrate Eid. There is usually a big gathering for the special Eid Namadh. After which the families indulge in giving feasts for their loved ones. A lot of special delicacies and mouth- watering desserts are made on this day.
The children give and receive gifts. Relatives meet and get together to celebrate Eid. A lot of charity is also given during this day.
Eid during Covid-19
Due to the recent pandemic things have changed drastically. Our lives have changed phenomenally. Because of Covid-19, this year the mosques were closed during Ramadan. Everyone had to stay in their houses. People could not meet their loved ones. No shopping was allowed as the shops were closed.
Despite of all this something did not change. That is the spirit of Ramadan. People continued to fast and pray indoors.
If this pandemic has taught us something then it is the fact that, no matter what, our belief in Allah has to be stronger like always. Peace will be restored soon, Insha Allah! Normalcy will return. This too shall pass. But we are not alone. Allah would help us like He always does.
Have a Happy Eid.
Stay blessed! Stay home! Stay connected!!
