International Literacy Day 2020

American social reformer, Frederick Douglass said, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free."

Every year on 8 September, international literacy day is celebrated. Literacy is considered as the corner stone of education as a whole. We all can agree that literacy is the most significant feature of education, and without education it is very evident that we will still be in the stone age. If one cannot read or write, then that person can only communicate verbally. When one cannot read, one cannot operate technology. And the world at this point of time has a huge dependence on technology as well as literacy.

Our school took great pride in celebrating the literacy day this year. Despite of the Covid- 19 we celebrated literacy day in our school premises. Aishath Zaina Nizar, 8B delivered a speech on the importance of literacy in Dhivehi. She was guided by Ms. Fareedha Moosa. Her speech was soon after the daily Quran recitation. All the students were able to hear the speech from their classrooms and responded quite well to it from their respective classes.

Moreover, there were many activities in the class to empower and enlighten students about the importance literacy. Do check one such activity by Aishath Ifau Ahmed Rasheed, 7B by clicking the above video.
