We witnessed history repeat itself when the lockdown was re-announced on the evening of February 6. It wasn't nationwide unlike the previous time but the entire city of Addu was under lockdown. This was due to the increasing number of cases in the atoll, especially the cases from random sampling.
There was fear and unrest among people. In order to control community spread, a total lockdown with a curfew was announced. The mosques, schools and all the places of social gathering were closed. And all the necessary precautions were taken. We had just started to get adjusted to the new normal and just like that we had another lockdown. It was chaotic again.
The beauty of this fear was the process in which we worked together as a community. We accepted and followed all the precautions. We did everything in our control to intercept the community spread. And the lockdown and curfew were relaxed soon. However, the city continued to be under intense monitoring.
Meanwhile, there was no stop to education. Though we had the lockdown, online classes were held for students. A lot of interactive classes were held to make it easier and fun for students to cooperate. After the lockdown was lifted students of grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 started going back to school. Nevertheless the schools remained closed for all the other students.
Alhamdulillahi! From today the schools reopened for all the grades. Though, the schools have reopened strict HPA guidelines are being followed in order to ensure the safety of the students and all the necessary steps are being taken to prevent a community spread.
Though the city is still under monitoring, it was splendid to see all the students in person. We are definitely going to win over this. With the biggest smile covered under my mask, I welcome the students back to school once again.
