Three Books to Read in March

Reading is a very easy hobby. It can transport and transcend you to new worlds beyond reality. Reading can make you believe in dragons, unicorns, magic and so on. But what reading also does is, it makes you believe in yourself. It makes you be confident. It can stir your soul, invoke emotions, provoke you and absorb the whole of you to give out a far superior human being than you were before you started reading. Reading makes a full man they say. But in my opinion reading makes a human, an intellectual. It makes a person know themselves more than they think they knew.

Our school library has amassed quite a collection of exquisite books over the years. And there are a lot of interesting gems which are a must read for the children as well as the adults. So here are three out of the many amazing books in our school library that are essential reads according to me.

Collected Stories of Saki

For someone who cannot read a lot of content at a time and for those who are still in the process of getting into the habit of reading, I strongly suggest they start reading short stories. Short-stories as the name suggests are quick to read, and they are very amusing. Saki is one of the most well-known short story writers. His story 'The Open Window' is extremely poignant and hilarious to read. There are around 135 stories in this book and you are sure going to enjoy it.

The Penguin Complete Novels of Jane Austen

I may be biased to choose Jane Austen because she has been one of my most favourite writers ever since I read her first novel when I was in sixth grade. With immense ease she transports the readers back to the 18th century Britain. She is prolific and profound and her novels are still adapted into movies and plays three centuries later. This book is quite interesting as it has seven of her magnificent works. Even reading one of them is surely going to be a superb experience.

The Alchemist

The best is saved for the last. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a novel which is a quick read. It is not very long however the book absorbs the reader so much into the fantasy, the treasure and the quest for fortune that it almost feels like a short story. This is a well-acclaimed novel of the modern times and it is inspiring and life changing. Even if you do not read the full book, at least read the prologue which is only 250 words. You will realise that the entire book will be worth the read, when the prologue in itself is so fascinating.

Please do try these books out, they all are available in the library. I am positive that you will enjoy them. Happy reading!
