Every year, on March 22, we
celebrate World Water Day to highlight the importance of freshwater resources.
On this day, we celebrate the water we have, and raise awareness of the world’s
water crisis. This year, we focus on
supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and
sanitation for all by 2030. World Water Day 2021’s theme is “Valuing Water”.
The value of water extends far beyond its price. That means we need to work harder to conserve what is already a dwindling resource. With water, as with most things, saving even a little makes a big difference. In a world of 7 billion people, where 2.2 billion lack access to safe
water, imagine if the remaining 4.8 billion saved just a bit of water. If they
used only the necessary amount for every task. Such a small action, yet it
yields amazing results.
However, lack of water isn’t the only problem we face. Safely transporting that water to those who need it also poses a problem. Many places simply do not have the infrastructure and so rely on simpler, perhaps less effective ways. Wells can dry out, rivers can become polluted, and rain is unpredictable.

Now, maybe that’s not
something you can solve, but it is something you can contribute ideas
to. After all, this year is all about our thoughts and ideas as the next
generation.
