World Autism Awareness Day 2021

April being the Autism Awareness Month, today we celebrated the Autism Awareness Day in our school premises which is celebrated every year on the second of April. All the students and teachers were dressed in blue to signify the day. Dressing up in blue is not only to keep the conversation about autism going on  but it is also to show the families that they are not alone in this. We are with them at every step of this.

A special assembly was held where the Principal spoke about the significance of the day and why it is important for all of us to be together and accept people with differences which rightly makes them special. Aishath Ifau Ahmed Rasheed of grade 7 B and Aminath Simee Sameeu of grade 8 B gave speeches regarding the day in English and Dhivehi respectively. But the best part of the event was the performance by Anhaaru Saudhulla, Anwaar Saudhulla and Mariyam Sahuva of grade 8 A for the song 'I'm just like you! Will you be my friend? ' It really was very heart-warming.

Today's highlight was the activity 'We all fit together' where all the students and teachers were given a puzzle piece to decorate. All the pieces were then fit together on a display wall to show that all of us fit in together just the way we are no matter how different.

A Parent's Fervent Gratitude

When teachers receive the heartfelt gratitude it just motivates and encourages us to do even better and try to achieve more. One such heartfelt gratitude was expressed today by Mariyam Isneen, mother of Ammaar Bin Ahmed, Grade 4 A on Facebook.

"Today, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my son's teachers and MS as a whole.
Thank you, for never leaving my child behind. Whether its knowledge based or extra curricular activities, he was always given the equal opportunity just like any other child. In fact, he was encouraged and pushed to extra miles to being part of all school activities. Thank you for those extra efforts. Thank you for the love and kindness. ❤

Even when I had doubts that he could do it, they encouraged. They pushed me and him to try. To try harder. To reach every milestone.

Words are never enough to thank you for your love, determination and hard work.

When I said Pre Cub will be fine for him, they said no, they encouraged me to enrol him in Cub Scout.

I doubted he could do the tasks. But the teachers had confidence in him. I'm glad that they went an extra mile in convincing me. Because he surprised me with his enthusiasm in completing the tasks, not to mention that I discovered his best handwritings in these work. And many more good things came out of it. Alhamdhulillah.

Again, I said no to Cub scout camp. But they were adamant.

I said no because he cannot do certain things alone, without my help. It was close to impossible for him to spend an entire day and night without us. But they said he will try and he can.

They built so much motivation in him that overnight he learned to do those things alone without our help. That was one of the most important milestones of his life. Masha Allah. It left me in happy tears to see him become more confident and independent.

Also MS conducts reading programmes for the students. And my child was not left behind. He was given the equal opportunity to be part of the programme too. Maybe a little differently than the mainstream one. But my son has come so far in it, it surprises me sometimes. His teachers encourage and motivate him to try harder. And I can see him do exactly that. And improving his reading skills day by day. Alhamdhulillah. He loves those badges he gets when he completes each task. Those badges mean so much to him. ❤

These things could have never been possible without his lovely teachers. Especially Aishath Labeega Miss and Aishath Suiza Miss. You are true gems! I appreciate every effort you put in, wholeheartedly. Just know that you are doing an amazing job in teaching our kids. You are special too. Just like them. Because as a parent, I know its not an easy task to teach and care for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD . You must always be extra patient, extra loving, extra determined and extra strong to do that. So I applaud you all for the amazing job you're doing and for helping my son reach so many milestones and improve with every passing day. I couldn't ask for more.

May Allah bless you all immensely for the amazing work that you do. May Allah reward you all."

We are extremely grateful beyond words for Ms. Isneen's profound and heartfelt thanks and we look forward to make a difference in every child's life.
