'The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.'
Maradhoo School students and staff commemorated Human Rights Day in a delightful and befitting way this week. During the assembly on our campus, the program began with the recital of the Holy Quran.
Mohamed Ahil Amir of grade 9A, the Deputy President of our school's Human Rights Club, delivered a speech about the significance of the day and why it is so vital to commemorate it. He also mentioned the United Nations' theme for this year's Human Rights Day, 'EQUALITY - Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights.' He also quoted from Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights."
The President of the Human Rights Club, Ali Majil Mohamed Fahmee of grade 8A, then spoke about the various events that the club has planned for this academic year. He also stated that the Human Rights Club's ulterior aim will be "the UN common framework on Leaving No One Behind: Equality and Non-Discrimination at the Heart of Sustainable Development."
