National Poetry Day 2021

Every year on January 15 we celebrate the National Poetry Day also known as Lhenveringe Dhuvas. It is celebrated as a way of showing reverence and love to the art of serene Dhivehi poetry. With the modern world it is easier to forget the utter pleasure and joy that poems can bring. This day serves as a reminder and inspiration for everyone to get back and write poems that could move others and be profound.

This day is celebrated in the memory of a great poet who has inspired us with his extremely prolific Dhivehi poetry, Ibrahim Shihab. He was son of scholar, Hussain Salahuddin who was also a poet. Ibrahim Shihab was born in 1926 and passed away in 1988. He is considered as one of the most talented writers of Maldives.

Every year on this day, one specific Dhivehi poet is honoured and remembered. This year was the 32nd Lhenveringe Dhuvas and the poet who was celebrated this year was Fathimath Saeed. She was widely known by her pen name Narugis Maa. She was born on March 17 in the year 1916. She specialized in writing poetry in all areas. She was also a student of Hussain Salahuddin.

This was the first event celebrated in our school this year. A special assembly was held in the school ground. Class 7A students paid an homage to the legendary poet. The whole school was vibrant and cheerful. Both the students and teachers were dressed in traditional clothing.
